Getting to North Cyprus by car
The world is so organized that modern man cannot do without a car! In North Cyprus, this rule is no exception! But what to do if you decide not to leave your iron horse unattended, and decided to go on it to Northern Cyprus? Is it possible? Of course I do! But there are some limitations.
You can come to North Cyprus with your own car from another country for a maximum of one year. You can get there by ferry and it’s actually easy. You buy a ticket to carry your car. The driver comes with the car. If there are additional passengers – you need separate tickets for them. Then pay the tax on traveling abroad. And welcome!
Details of ferry routes and ticket prices can be found on the website:
By the way, the ferry takes 7-12 hours to travel, plus tickets and other formalities can take about an hour. This is not a short trip, so we recommend that you book a cabin. It’s more comfortable that way than sitting on the deck. It is forbidden to stay in the car while the ferry is moving. And don’t get a cabin in the hold – it’s not for the faint of heart. Too much technique and noise.
Can I register my car in North Cyprus? Unfortunately, there is no such opportunity! You can’t deregister a car on the island and you can’t leave it here. The only thing is, you can recycle it. But there has to be a good reason to dispose of it. For example, an accident after which the vehicle is not repairable.
How do you leave the island by car? The same ferry, but the person who imported the vehicle must remove it. An important point: you should pay all fines before you leave and have receipts on hand just in case. Without it, you may simply not be allowed out.
Good luck on the roads!
